Yarrow (Achillea millefolium) is a perennial herb widely used in traditional herbal medicine in many countries. It is known as an astringent herb that stops bleeding and is well-known for its anti-inflammatory properties used for minor cuts and burns, healing wounds and relieving pain. Yarrow is reported to contain various phytochemical constituents including sesquiterpene lactones, flavonoids, and phenolic compounds. Yarrocalm-ANB shows anti-oxidant activities by scavenging free radicals and inhibiting cellular reactive oxygen species (ROS) production. It also shows anti-inflammatory properties with the inhibition of nitric oxide (NO) synthesis and inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) protein expression, as well as the inhibition of prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) production.
